A man shot and killed at an illegal cockfighting arena southeast of Petaluma was identified Friday by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.

Julian Ramirez Ramirez, 45, of Richmond, was pronounced dead at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital following the shooting Sunday morning at a large ranch in the 6500 block of Lakeville Highway.

Ramirez was struck in the neck and upper chest area after multiple shots were fired by one or more suspects, the sheriff’s office previously said in a statement.

Family members drove him to Petaluma Valley Hospital, and he was transferred to Memorial due to the severity of his injuries. Witnesses reported seeing several cars speed away from the ranch where the shooting occurred.

The sheriff’s office said Friday it had no new information on the case.
