NORTH BAY: Restaurants win wine honors

Six North Bay restaurants were recently recognized by Wine Enthusiast magazine in its compilation of the 100 Best Wine Restaurants 2014.

In Sonoma County, the Spinster Sisters of Santa Rosa and Spoonbar of Healdsburg were both singled out for their wine programs.

Napa Valley restaurants that made the cut include Solbar of Calistoga, the Restaurant at Meadowood of St. Helena, the French Laundry of Yountville and the Restaurant at Auberge du Soleil of Rutherford.

FORESTVILLE: Twist celebrates anniversary

Twist Eatery in Forestville, owned by Jeff Young and his wife, Toni Echols, will celebrate its second anniversary on Tuesday — and Young's birthday — by giving away miniatures of Echols' famous chocolate chip cookies.

The restaurant serves 'world cuisine, locally sourced' on its menu, which includes pasta specials and potato gnocchi, healthy salads and hearty sandwiches. With the launch of the tomato season, the OMG BLT is back.

PENNGROVE: Hot rods and barbecue

The Penngrove Social Firemen will rev up the hot rods and heat up the barbecue from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Penngrove Community Park for the fourth annual BBQ, Music and Car Show.

The afternoon includes a chicken barbecue lunch, dance music by Charley Baker and a raffle for a 1952 custom gas pump and other prizes.

More than 200 cars will be on display. Car enthusiasts can bring their vehicles, as long as they are 1974 or older. There is no entry fee.

Cost is $15, including lunch; $5 kids under 12. Tickets are available at JavAmore Cafe in Penngrove or at 585-1401 or 981-7765. 11800 Main St.

SANTA ROSA: Afternoon Affair on Sunday

An Afternoon Affair, the annual fundraiser for the Living Room, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pythian House, a mountain retreat at 1001 Pythian Road.

The event includes hors d'oeuvres from Park Avenue Catering, cupcakes from Sift, sparkling wine from Korbel and music by the Stephanie Ozer Duo.

Tickets are $100, available at thelivingroomsc.org or 579-0138. The Living Room provides day services for women and children who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, in Sonoma County.

HEALDSBURG: Wine, Women & Shoes

Wine, Women & Shoes, a benefit for the Healthcare Foundation, will be held from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Chalk Hill Estate Vineyards and Winery.

The event features food and wine, a silent and live auction and a fashion show complete with an array of charming 'shoe guys.'
