A fire that started in a van at a Santa Rosa mobile home park Sunday afternoon quickly spread and severely damaged two of the homes.

Three engines and a ladder truck responded to the blaze at the Rincon Valley Mobile Home Estates off Highway 12, Santa Rosa Fire Battalion Chief Mark Basque said. The fire was under control in about 10 minutes, he said.

No one was injured in the incident. The owner of one of the homes was away, and the owners of the other home escaped the blaze.

The owner, who gave his name as Dave, said he had lived in the home for more than two years.

“I’m glad we got out with our lives,” he said. “It’s pretty devastating.”

The van was owned by a handyman, who was installing skylights in the occupied home, and gave his name as Chris. He said the van’s engine was off and he did not know how it could have caught fire.

“I lost all my tools,” he said. “I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m in shock.”

Santa Rosa Fire is investigating the cause of the blaze, Basque said. He estimated damages at $50,000.
