HEALDSBURG: Get a jump on DIY decorating for the holidays

Brace yourself. The holidays are coming. You can get ahead of the decorating crunch by learning how to make your own wreathes, swags and table decor using materials from your own garden

Master Gardener Ellyn Pelikan will show how to “make holiday wonders on a budget” during a free workshop Nov. 1 at the Healdsburg Library. 10:30 to 12:30 p.m. 139 Piper St. Sonomamastergardeners.org.

PETALUMA: Plant your own home herb garden

Master Gardener Janet Barocco will demonstrate how to plant a home herb garden that will be a living “pantry” of flavor to enhance meals, beverages and desserts on Oct. 25 at The Petaluma Regional Library.

The free workshop will cover the basics of cultivating, using and preserving culinary herbs and edible flowers. 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 100 Fairgrounds Dr.

SANTA ROSA: Be water efficient

An expert in water-efficient landscaping and rainwater harvesting will give an update on the drought and ways to save water during the Oct. 27 meeting of the Santa Rosa Garden Club.

Randy Barron, who managers water-related programs for the city of Santa Rosa, will also talk about various incentives and informational programs available to consumers.

Barron oversees the Residential Audit program, The Single Family Residence Landscape policy, The Green Exchange and Rainwater Harvesting rebate programs and the city’s Waste Water program.

He is a certified landscape irrigation auditor, Qualified Water-Efficient Landscaper and accredited Rainwater Harvesting Professional.

The meeting, open to non-members, is at 1 p.m. at The Luther Burbank Art and Garden Center, 2050 Yulupa Ave., Santa Rosa.

SANTA ROSA: Water saving tips

Water conservation is slowly becoming a way of life in Sonoma County with each new drought.

Master Gardener and Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper Susan Foley will discuss ways to act now, including prioritizing if water demands out-pace supply and how to create climate-appropriate gardens that will survive in a drought.

The 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. workshop is free and will be held Oct. 25 at the Rincon Valley Library, 6959 Montecito Blvd., Santa Rosa.

SANTA ROSA: Flower arrangers, Garden Club hold flower show

The Santa Rosa Flower Arrangers Guild and the Santa Rosa Garden Club are making “Memories” with an upcoming Standard Flower Show in memory of a woman who was a member of both organizations for more than 40 years.

Slated for Nov. 1, the show will honor Marjorie Ogard, who was a floral designer and master flower show judge for the National Garden Clubs.

The free educational event open to the public will feature horticultural specimens as well as creative and traditional floral designs judged by National Garden Club flower show judges. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 2050 Yulupa Ave., Santa Rosa. SONOMA: Edible landcaping

Creative gardener and artist Sue Lovelace will give a presentation on “Edible Landscaping and Holiday Decor” during the Nov. 6 meeting of the Valley of the Moon Garden Club.

Lovelace, who is a master gardener with specialties in food gardening, water efficiency and school gardening, has her own beautiful home garden filled with perennials, vines, flowers and edibles that she raids for materials to making holiday arrangements, wreaths and swags.

The meeting is open to non-member for a $5 fee. The presentation begins at 7 p.m. following a half hour meet and greet. Refreshments are served. The meeting is held at the Sonoma Veterans Building, 126 First St. W. For information visit vom-garden-club.org.

WINDSOR: Garden Club fall sale

Stock up on ready-made arrangements to dress your house for fall during the Windsor Garden Club’s autumn sale Oct. 26 at the Windsor Farmer’s Market Harvest Festival.

Club members will sell fall color containers, succulents, decorated pumpkins and other seasonal gifts. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the east end of the market across from the library. For information call Cindy at 292-3405.

NAPA: Farmhouse makeover

Traditional Home Magazine has unleashed a team of 15 designers from the Bay Area and beyond to make over a historic Victorian farmhouse at a Napa vineyard estate.

The third annual Traditional Home Napa Valley Showhouse is open through Nov. 16 at Caldwell Vineyards, a 123-acre estate in the Coombsville area.

“Admission to the showcase is $30 and includes a tour of the house and property as well as a taste of Caldwell Estate wines. For $75, guests will get an extended tasting and admission to the Caldwell cave.

The Showhouse will be open for visits from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except Mondays through Nov. 16 and is a benefit for the Napa Valley Film Festival.
