Petaluma Bounty holds fall plant sale today

Petaluma Bounty will hold an annual Fall Plant Sale and Harvest Party from 9 a.m. to

3 p.m. today.

The day begins with a winter garden workshop with garden educator Wendy Krupnick at 9 a.m., followed by the plant sale at 11 a.m. All plants will be $2 to $4. Cost for the workshop is $20.

The three-hour Harvest Party gets underway at noon with lunch. People can bring their own picnic or purchase a plate of roast lamb, veggies, cheese, wine and dessert for $12 while the food lasts. Attendees need to bring their own plates and utensils for lunch.

Bounty Farm volunteers will be honored during lunch. The rest of the afternoon will be given over to live music and complimentary tomato tastings of locally grown favorites. Guests are welcome to bring tomatoes from their gardens to include in the tasting.

All activities will be held at the Petaluma Bounty Community Farm, 55 Shasta Ave., Petaluma, off Petaluma Boulevard North behind Lucky's. For more information, call 775-3663.

Jail Industries holds plant sale today

The Sonoma County Jail Industries is holding a plant sale today to help gardeners get a start on the fall season.

California natives, succulents, perennials, shrubs, vines, groundcovers, fruit and ornamental trees will be available for sale, as well as 10 Master Gardeners on hand to answer questions.

All plants are grown by inmates in their own 22 greenhouses using only compost and no fertilizer or pesticides.

2-day Wright course at SRJC

He has been declared "the greatest American architect of all time" by the American Institute of Architects.

But Frank Lloyd Wright, who died 54 years ago, was also a fascinating character study, a genius rooted not just in a commitmentics or good design, but based on deep philosophical principles.

"His radical and dramatic life changed our society and our architecture," says Mark Perry, an architect and architectural historian who will teach a two-day course on Frank Lloyd Wright: Man Myth and Architecture," Sept. 25 and 26 at Santa Rosa Junior College.

The community education call will be held two evenings, Sept. 25 and 26 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Room 4245 of the Frank P. Doyle Library on campus. Registration is through Santa Rosa Junior College's Community Education. For information, email mark@ideastudios.com.

How to dress up planting containers

Learn how to dress up your planting containers with bulbs during a lecture Wednesday at Luther Burbank Home and Gardens.

Susan Hatch, a manager at Santa Rosa's King's Nursery, will give tips on what type of plants and bulbs work well together in containers. She will also cover soil and fertilizers. Redwood Stitchers annual open house

The Redwood Stitchers host their 4th annual open house Wednesday featuring an exhibit of members' needlework.

Featured will be everything from beading, bargello and cross-stitch to needlepoint, Hardanger, huck embroidery and temari. Visitors can also view examples of the club's community outreach projects, which include hand-stitched bookmarks for local schools to colorful pillowcases for the YWCA Safe House.

Admission is free and refreshments will be served. 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Luther Burbank Art & Garden Center, 2050 Yulupa Ave., Santa Rosa.

Bargain plants for sale at Willowside

Bargain plants are up for grabs at the Willowside School Fall Plant Sale today.

The student-run nursery will have perennials, roses, grasses, Japanese and Trident maples, deodar cedars, redwoods and cypress as well as a multitude of succulents, bonsai crabapple, Chinese quince and elm trees. Pack home a 3- to 6-foot red/yellow magnolia for $25 to $40.
