PETALUMA: 2 London Foodies open own shop

Sue “The Guvnor” Grixti and her sister, Kate Neubig, have opened 2 London Foodies, a British shop serving European-style sandwiches and sausage rolls, pastries and desserts, at 122 American Alley in Petaluma.

The alleyway shop, located “underground” next to Prince Gallery, also sells an assortment of British groceries, from Marmite and HP Sauce to Whittard teas and tea accessories.

Most of the food can be taken to go, but there are a few bistro tables where you can sit and enjoy crumpets and tea.

Pop in for a brisk cuppa from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. Who knows? You might even run into royalty. 774-6996. www.facebook.com/2londonfoodies

OAKLAND: Carlin to develop Oakland market

Steve Carlin, developer of the Oxbow Public Market in downtown Napa, has been chosen to develop and open Water Street Market in Oakland’s Jack London Square.

“Consumers have told us they want a unique shopping experience in a comfortable social setting,” Carlin said in a press release. “The groundwork has certainly been laid with many successful innovative businesses in the area.”

In the past two years, there has been a surge in new businesses in the square, including Plank, a food and entertainment venue; and Steel Rail, a locally owned cafe.

Carlin is a retail marketplace developer and specialty food consultant working in cities across the U.S. He spent 20 years as managing partner of the Oakville Grocery and was integrally involved in the development of the Ferry Building Marketplace in San Francisco.

Situated along a San Francisco Bay estuary, Jack London Square is Oakland’s only publicly accessible mixed-use waterfront area and a well-known landmark since the mid-1800s.
