Nepal benefit dinner at Ramekins to feature local avalanche survivor

Mount Everest hiker Jon Reiter and Nepalese restaurateur Nima Sherpa will speak at a fundraising event for Nepal earthquake survivors.|

Ramekins, a cooking school and events center in Sonoma, will hold a community dinner at 5 p.m. May 14 to provide relief for survivors of the Nepal earthquake.

Speaking at the dinner will be restaurateur Nima Sherpa, owner of the Himalayan Sherpa Kitchen in Napa, and Jon Reiter of Kenwood, who survived the earthquake and its ensuant avalanches while staying at the Mount Everest base camp.

Tickets are $200, with 100 percent of the proceeds going directly to the Himalayan Sherpa Club Sonoma, a nonprofit formed by local Sherpa friends and family. The money raised will go directly to the small villages of Nepal that are not receiving the same level of relief as the capital city of Katmandu.
