SANTA ROSA: Veg out at VegFest

The North Bay nonprofit, Compassionate Living, will hold its second annual Sonoma County VegFest from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Finley Community Center.

The festival is an indoor-outdoor celebration of compassionate living and eating featuring vegan cooking demonstrations, food samples, a film showing, speakers and a kids’ area.

Food vendors include Grindstone Bakery and chocolatier Obsessive Confection Disorder. Lunch choices include local vegan favorites such as Seed on the Go food truck, Chalk Hill Cookery of Healdsburg and Muir’s Tea Room of Sebastopol.

SEBASTOPOL: Harvest of the Heart

Ceres Community Project, a nonprofit that nourishes people facing a health crisis and teaches teens how to cook, will hold its annual benefit at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Ceres Community Garden in Sebastopol.

The evening begins with a country fair-themed garden reception with farm-fresh food, wine and cider pairings, plus a smoothie bar and fair games.

The dinner in the outdoor pavilion will be prepared by Chef Daniel Kedan of Backyard Restaurant in Forestville in partnership with teen chefs from Ceres.

HEALDSBURG: Project Zin benefit

Chef Charlie Palmer of the Dry Creek Kitchen and Winemaker Clay Mauritson of Mauritson Family Winery will team up for the 5th annual Project Zin at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Hotel Healdsburg.

During the tasting event, guests will sample 21 of the most acclaimed zinfandel wines and mingle with producers. Tastings will be paired with creations from Palmer, Dry Creek Kitchen Executive Chef Andrew Wilson and restaurants such as Diavola Pizzeria of Geyserville, Jimtown Store and Valette of Healdsburg.

ROHNERT PARK: Jazz supper club event

SOMO Concerts will present a Jazz Supper Club at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at Sally Tomatoes Cafe in Rohnert Park.

The evening features a four-course meal and a two-set concert by pianist and composer Danny Green and his trio.

Doors open at 5 p.m. with appetizers and no-host cocktails. Dinner begins at 6 p.m., and the show begins at 7 p.m.

SONOMA: Dinner & film screening

As part of the Sonoma International Film Festival, Burgers & Vine Whiskey Bar and Grille will offer a three-course dinner and wine at 6:30 tonight, followed by a film screening of “Born in Chicago.”

The 2013 music documentary chronicles Chicago’s southside music clubs and the African-American blues musicians who schooled young white acolytes in the 1960s, who went on to play on some of the most influential pop recordings of the era.

SANTA ROSA: John Ash & Co. turns 35

John Ash & Co. will celebrate 35 years in Sonoma County with a special, three-course chef’s tasting menu available Aug. 10 to 15 at the Santa Rosa restaurant for just $35.
