Rhys Bowen, whose historical mysteries tinged with humor have vaulted her books to the New York Times bestseller list, is coming to Copperfield’s Books in Petaluma on Aug. 8.

Bowen’s latest is “Malice in the Palace,” featuring amateur sleuth Lady Georgiana Rannoch, whose lineage as thirty-fifth in line to the throne won’t make her a royal but gives her excellent access to Britain’s peerage. In this tale, Lady Georgianna finds herself investigating a palace murder that puts a damper on the Royal Wedding. Bowen’s popular “Queen of Hearts” has just been released in paperback.

The British-born writer, who worked for years in broadcasting for the BBC and later in Australia, now lives in San Francisco.

The talk is at 7 p.m. The store is at 140 Kentucky St., Petaluma.

For fans who can’t make it, Saturday Bowen will appear at 7 p.m. Aug. 11 at Book Passage, 51 Tamal Vista Blvd., Corte Madera. Copperfieldsbooks.com or bookpassage.com.
