Marimar Estate hosts only-in-Wine Country kind of block party

When you think of block parties, it brings to mind a neighborhood with grills smokin’ and an endless supply of fresh baked pies.

Marimar Estate in Sebastopol has a different idea in mind. Its Block Party on Aug. 29 will showcase the different blocks of vines within a vineyard. The winery is offering guests not only a glimpse of these blocks, but also a chance to taste of the bottlings these particular vines have produced.

What’s inventive about this idea is that most people don’t realize the effort winemakers and growers take to separate out different vines for blending their creations. This block party approach will help people see that blends are not just a combination of different varietals. Blocks of vines are separated out for all kinds of reasons – some because of their root stocks, their clones, their light exposure, etc.

For those intrigued by this clever event, what follows are the details.

The Block Party, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. welcomes you to bring a picnic dinner so you can enjoy it on the patio after touring and tasting. The live music will play until 7 p.m. The fee is $25 per person for the tour, tasting and music. For more information, visit marimarestate-blockparty-evenbright.com. The winery is located at 11400 Graton Road.
