Heirloom Expo in Santa Rosa grows into its fifth year

The fifth annual National Heirloom Exposition will return Sept. 8-10 to the Sonoma County Fairgrounds with several new attractions.|

The fifth annual National Heirloom Exposition will return Sept. 8, 9 and 10 to the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa with several new attractions, including an Antique Tractor Show, an Old Time Fiddler’s Contest and an Heirloom Cuisine Contest.

Dubbed “The World’s Pure Food Fair,” the non-profit exposition organized by Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Co. of Petaluma will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. all three days. In addition, the doors will open at 9 a.m. Sept. 10 to welcome school kids during Educational and Fun Day.

The event aimed at food enthusiasts, home gardeners, farmers and leaders in the food industry also offers live music, chef demos, a chalk art show, a honey show, a dahlia show, a pumpkin and sunflower contest plus exhibits of heritage livestock and poultry, heirloom fruits and vegetables.

Among the dozens of speakers will be environmental activist Dr. Vandana Shiva, filmmaker Jeremy Seifert of the documentary “GMO OMG,” and farming entrepreneur Jere Gettle, founder of Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Co.

Admission is $15 a day, or $30 for all three days; free for ages 17 and under. 1350 Bennett Valley Rd. theheirloomexpo.com.
