SANTA ROSA: Harvest Awards Dinner at Wells Fargo Center

The 2015 Harvest Fair Awards Night, including dinner by John Ash & Co. and award-winning wines, will be held Sunday, Sept. 27, at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts.

The dinner kicks off at 4:30 p.m. with a reception, followed by the awards at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Awards will be given to top wines and restaurants as well as some of Sonoma County’s top agricultural leaders.

SONOMA: Sunday Supper at 5th St. Farms

Ramekins Chef Kyle Kuklewski will celebrate the harvest at the cooking school’s very own 5th Street Farm with a community meal at 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27.

The menu includes Pan-Seared Scallops and Caramelized Brussel Sprouts with Bacon Lardons, Crispy Skin Tarragon Chicken with Coriander Jus and Spiced Apple and Pear Crumble with Honey-Bourbon Anglaise.

HEALDSBURG: Hachisu at the Shed

Healdsburg Shed will celebrate the release of Nancy Singleton Hachisu’s new cookbook with a multi-course dinner at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, upstairs in the Grange.

The cookbook, “Preserving the Japanese Way,” introduces easy and approachable Japanese methods of salting, pickling and fermenting to Western cooks.

SONOMA: Azevedo plans tapas bar

Chef Manuel Azevedo, owner of LaSalette Restaurant in Sonoma and Cafe Lucia in Healdsburg, plans to open a third restaurant, Tasca Tasca, in downtown Sonoma as a tapas-style restaurant.

Azevedo is in the process of purchasing The Epicurean Connection Cheese Shop from Seana Davis, who founded the cafe and cheese shop in Boyes Hot Springs and moved it to 122 West Napa Street in 2010. Davis plans to continue making her own cheese, running her own catering company and offering cheese classes with the help of wine educator Ben Sessions.

Tasca Tasca, which is scheduled to open in January 2016, expands on the popular Tasco Tasting Plates and Portuguese wines served at Azevedo’s other two restaurants.

The menu will include authentic and seasonal tapas, plus salads and soups, including dishes such as Portuguese Mac & Cheese, Raw Oysters with Lemon Fennel Mignonette and Pork Belly with Madeira Glaze. The wine list will focus on Portuguese wines and include an extensive Port and Madeira selection.

GLEN ELLEN: Paleo at Glen Ellen Star

Chef Ari Weiswasser, a CrossFit devote, has created a special Paleo pick-up dinner menu in conjunction with the Lurong Living Challenge, a seven-week CrossFit competition that combines diet and fitness.

The menu provides those participating in the challenge with an accessible and delicious way to fuel themselves. Each weekly menu is available for $27.50 per person through Oct. 28, by reservation only. Reservations must be made no later than Sunday night before pickup. Meals are ready to be picked up at 5:30 p.m. each Wednesday at the restaurant.

The menu for pick-up on Sept. 30 includes Zucchini “Pasta” Lamb Ragu, Moroccan olives, artichokes and tomato; Wood Roasted Sweet Potatoes with “ranch” dressing and pickled jalapeños; and Spinach Salad with red onions, hard-cooked egg, toasted pine nuts and bacon vinaigrette.

SANTA ROSA: Keller at Warm Puppy Cafe

”Snoopy’s Home Ice at the Redwood Empire Ice Arena has hired longtime Sonoma County chef Josef Keller as the food services director for its iconic Warm Puppy Cafe.

The professional chef, restaurateur and long-time friend of the Schulz family brings 40 years of food service experience to his new role as well as a personal commitment to community service and education.

While popular items such as hot dogs and French fries will remain on the menu. Keller plans to add daily specials that draw upon his fine dining experience.

“As ‘top food dog,’ I will be happily creating my soups, salads and sandwiches, plus my apple strudel and chocolate mousse,” he said. “I am happy to be working with an important community treasure.”

Keller owned La Province Restaurant in Santa Rosa for 12 years and Josef’s Restaurant in Santa Rosa for 17 years. After closing Josef’s in 2010, he helped develop a better menu and delivery system for the Council on Aging’s Meals on Wheels program. For the past few years, he has worked for Sonoma State University, at Prelude Restaurant catering to Green Music Center concert-goers, as well as at the Overlook Restaurant at the student center, catering to faculty and students.
