Santa Rosa's Safari West is offering the prize to anyone who comes up with the perfect name for their newest addition.|

MUCH ADO ABOUT MONKEYS

Did you know?

- Patas are capable of running up to 35 miles per hour

- Patas walk on their fingers and not their palms

- When excited they sometimes jump up and down, earning them the moniker “the dancing monkeys”

- Patas can hold as much food in their cheeks as they can in their stomachs

- Patas can live up to 28 years in captivity

Bonzo, King Kong and Zip are already taken.

But everything else is on the table when it comes to names for Safari West’s newest bundle of joy, a four-pound Patas monkey.

The African wild animal park east of Santa Rosa is offering a free safari tour of the park to anyone who comes up with a perfect name for the tiny primate born Aug. 5.

Ideas can be pitched to namethatmonkey@safariwest.com. Deadline is midnight on Monday Aug. 24. See details at www.safariwest.com/name-that-monkey.

This is the second child for proud parents Izzie and Maurice. They had a daughter Jasmine, last year.

The newborn is brown with a pink face and is still clinging to his furry mom, although he is gradually starting to explore, the park reports.

When full grown at about 4 years old he is expected to weigh 20 to 27 pounds.
