Jason Segel, the “How I Met your Mother” actor who is starring in a new critically acclaimed biopic about the late writer David Foster Wallace, will appear at Copperfield's Books in Petaluma Sept. 10 to talk about his own new book for young readers.

“Nightmares: The Sleepwalker Tonic,” is a sequel to his New York Times bestseller, “Nightmares.” which he co-wrote with author Kirsten Miller.

Segel’s performance as the tortured novelist and essayist David Foster Wallace in “The End of the Tour” is receiving high praise. The film zeroes in on a period in the early 1990s when Rolling Stone writer David Lipsky, played by Jesse Eisenberg, trails the tortured writer him on a book tour for his groundbreaking novel “Infinite Jest.” The movie is in theaters now.

As a writer, Segel serves up scary fare for kids ages 8 to 12.

His appearance is a coup for Copperfield's. It will be Segel’s only Bay Area book store stop, said Vicki DeArmon, Marketing and Events Director at for the North Bay book store chain.

Segel will sign only books, and no memorabilia from fans. Purchase of his new book is required, but will come with two tickets to the event, which starts at 7 p.m.

The actor starred for 10 years on the TV series “How I Met Your Mother.”

The book publishes on Sept. 8. Books may be purchased by phone ($18.95) and picked up at the counter the night of the event.
