LandPaths to host community campout near Occidental

Join LandPaths Docents this weekend for a summer campout of story-telling, night hikes, stargazing and community at the Bohemia Ecological Preserve.|

There is still time to have one last summer blast with a two-day camp-out near Occidental.

LandPaths is hosting a camp-out this weekend at Bohemia Preserve Friday Aug. 28 through Sunday Aug. 30, with story-telling, night hikes and stargazing.

The overnighter is a chance to experience the mystery and majesty of the land after dark, while exploring and relaxing during the day.

The group will gather at 6:30 p.m. Friday to set up camp and share a potluck meal. Campers can join in a night hike and just relax at Hut Hill. People are encouraged to bring instruments for music and stories to share.

The second night is optional for those who want to extend the experience to Sunday morning, where there will be a shared breakfast before everyone departs at 10 a.m.

Campers should bring their own tent, sleeping bag and pad as well as re-usable picnic dishes and utensils and a potluck dish to share Friday night as well as meals for the remainder of the weekend. People might also consider bringing a camp stove & cooler if they want them, drinking and cook water there is a spigot on-site for dishwashing - warm clothing to layer, sturdy shoes for hiking, a flashlight, camp chair and trash bags to pack in and out.

Landpaths has a couple of cabins with beds that people can reserve if they need them but bedding is not provided.

A sliding scale donation of $25 to $50 is asked. Campers can arrive between 5:30 and 6;30 p.m.

Campers may arrive between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the Bohemia Ecological Preserve, 6773 Bohemian Highway, just past Westminster Woods.
