Healdsburg Shed brings Hoffman on board

Healdsburg Shed owners Cindy Daniel and Doug Lipton have hired chef Perry Hoffman as their new culinary director after his celebrated run as executive chef at étoile at Domaine Chandon, which closed earlier this year.

Hoffman, who was the youngest American chef to earn a Michelin star at age 25, will oversee the culinary program for the Sh3d, which includes a modern grange hall, cafe serving all day, private dining and events.

“He has the heart of a gardener and, like us, he believes that cultivating good food comes from good farming,” Daniel said.

Hoffman is the grandson of Sally and Don Schmitt, the original owners of The French Laundry in Yountville and founders of The Apple Farm in Philo. He grew up helping his grandmother in the kitchen and went on to hone his craft at Napa Valley restaurants such as Auberge du Soleil and étoile at Domaine Chandon.

“Cindy and Doug have created something alive and beautiful at Shed,” Hoffman said. “I’m especially looking forward to exploring seasonality and terroir in Sonoma County, and being part of creating and completing the cycle from seed to plate.”

Last spring, Hoffman celebrated his wedding weekend in Healdsburg with his wife, Kristen. The couple eventually plans to move to Sonoma County from the Napa Valley.

Healdsburg Shed is located at 25 North St. and is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., closed Tuesdays. 431-7433. healdsburgshed.com.
