Balletto, 2013 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, 13.8 percent, $29. This pinot is earthy and fruit forward. It has bright red fruit, with notes of cherry, mushroom and forest floor. Bright acidity. Lingering finish. Lovely.

Flora Springs, 2014 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc, 14.2 percent, $25. A tasty sauvignon blanc with aromas and flavors of grapefruit, lime and lemongrass. Bright acid and good minerality. Refreshing.

MacMurray, 2013 Central Coast Pinot Noir, 14.8 percent, $23. This is a tangy pinot noir with bright acid and buoyant red fruit. This pinot is layered with herbs and spice. This is a great price for a wine of this caliber.

Loring Company, 2014 Kessler-Haak Vineyard, Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir, 14.3 percent Pinot Noir, $40. A full throttle pinot noir with bold cherry fruit, coupled with bright acid. Notes of herbs and spice in the mix. Top rate.

Lang & Reed, 2014 Mendocino Cabernet Franc, 13.5 percent, $27. A dense wine with a deep core of black cherry and a dollop of blueberry. Layered notes of herbs and cracked black pepper. Firm tannins. Nice length.
