WALK AND TALK, MAY 7

Bodega Bay: Join Mike Heffemon, birder and retired science teacher, for a bird walk and talk at Tannery Creek Canyon, 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday. Learn about bird migration, nesting, bird identification and feeding behaviors. Meet at the end of Jenner Drive. $10, $5 for children, free under 12. ARMSTRONG RUNS, MAY 7

Guerneville: Choose from five routes through the redwoods Saturday as runners converge on Armstrong Woods Natural Reserve and Austin Creek State Recreation Area. AVOID SNAKES, MAY 7

BAT HIKE, MAY 13

Occidental: Enter the world of bats and other night critters during LandPaths' docent-led, adult-recommended hike and potluck dinner in the hills above Occidental. Meet at 5:30 p.m. May 13 at the Bohemia Ecological Preserve, 6773 Bohemian Highway, just past Westminister Woods. Overnight stay is optional, donations are requested. PARK TO PARK, MAY 14

Glen Ellen: Hike with guides from Jack London State Historic Park to the North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park along the North Sonoma Mountain Ridge Trail. 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. May 14. The strenuous 8-mile hike is for ages 15 and up. $15. Meet in the parking lot of Jack London State Park, 2400 London Ranch Road and plan a car shuttle for your return. 938-5216.

PUBLIC HIKE, MAY 14

ROLLING ON THE CREEK, MAY 14

Santa Rosa: Join Landpaths for an outing geared toward folks in wheelchairs and their family or caregivers on a 5-mile round-trip roll along the Santa Rosa Creek Trail between A Place to Play at 2375 W. Third St. and Willowside Road, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. May 14. Restroom facility available at each end of the trail. Friendly dogs on a leash and children welcome. The trail is almost completely flat and 95 percent paved. Register by phone at 544-7284, ext. 100.

SWIMMING LESSONS, MAY 14

Santa Rosa: Sonoma County Regional Parks' “Let's Go Swimming” event in English and Spanish is 1-4 pm. May 14 at the Finley Aquatic Center. 2060 W. College Ave. The event also is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sunday at the Healdsburg Swim Center, 60 Monte Vista Ave. Call 565-8034 to register.
