Get outdoors this week at these Sonoma County events

Take a full moon run, count birds, bike the new pump track and celebrate the holidays with a campfire, plus other ways to get outdoors this week.|

PUMP TRACK, DEC. 8

Santa Rosa: The pump track is now open for riders of BMX bicycles and others with wide tires at Northwest Community Park next to Hilliard Comstock Middle School. The park is accessible from Marlow Road or West Steele Lane. When it is wet, the track is closed to prevent damage. Call Santa Rosa Recreation and Parks at 707-543-3737.

GUIDED WALK, DEC. 10

Petaluma: Sonoma County Regional Parks’ “Walk on the Wild Side” hike for families and nature lovers is 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at Tolay Lake Regional Park, 5869 Cannon Lane. Bring a snack and water. $5 per family, $3 for individual, $7 for parking. Register at sonomacountyparks.org.

CHRISTMAS AT THE MISSION, DEC. 10

Sonoma: Dress for the weather and celebrate Christmas outdoors 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the Sonoma Mission at Sonoma State Historic Park, 20 E. Spain St. Free activities include music by Pickle Creek String Band and tours of the Toscano Hotel and Kitchen, Sonoma Barracks campfire program with a holiday twist, Blue Wing Adobe Inn living history demonstration and tour of General Joseph Hooker House. BIRD COUNT, DEC. 10

Santa Rosa: Annual Mayacamas Christmas bird count for kids 7 and older is 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday at Pepperwood Preserve, 2130 Pepperwood Preserve Road. TRAIL WALK, DEC. 10

Santa Rosa: Take a leisurely 2.4-mile walk along the Discovery Trail 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday. Meet at Heron Hall at the Laguna Environmental Center, 900 Sanford Road, then carpool to the trail off Stony Point Road. $15 nonrefundable fee. Heavy rain cancels the event. FULL MOON RUN, DEC. 11

Lake Sonoma: Join the Healdsburg Running Company for a full moon run Sunday. Meet at the Liberty Glen Campground. Call 707-395-0372 for information and to confirm the time.
