Pepperwood Preserve is now accepting applications for TeenNat, an internship program open to teens ages 13 to 18 who can commit five weeks of summer to outdoor education and research.

Participants will spend three days each week at the 3,100-acre preserve between Santa Rosa and Calistoga, exploring wildlife habitat in the Mayacmas Mountains, learning about field work and science careers, and collecting and documenting their observations.

TeenNat interns learn how to use satellite navigation devices and digital cameras to record their findings. In addition to keeping the cameras, they can earn 90 hours of community service for their time. Acceptance is competitive.

The free program, now in its fifth year, runs from July 5 to Aug. 3, Tuesday through Thursday.
