Snapshots From the Summer of Love

We asked readers to share their memories of the historic summer and found that the passage of 50 years has added perspective to many of their tales.|

We’re devoting this edition of Sonoma Life to the Summer of Love in San Francisco and beyond in 1967. From communes to counterculture concerts, the North Bay was a Bohemian outpost where many grew up and where others came to think, write, play music or rest. We asked readers to share their memories with us, and found that the passage of 50 years has added perspective to many of their tales. If you were there, we hope it will awaken your own memories. If you weren’t, we hope it will shine a light on an era assessed by many, but truly lived by a few. As Scott McKenzie crooned on his hit “San Francisco,” it was “a whole generation, with a new explanation.” For more Summer of Love, also check out the current issue of Sonoma Magazine. Enjoy.
