It was almost like being a kid again.

The instant grown-up guests stepped into Chop’s Teen Club on Saturday evening, the fun began.

New arrivals to Back to the Future, a benefit dinner-and-dance party, were welcomed by live music from club members, then invited to make their way down the hall to a silent auction and the attractions in the café.

There were appetizers prepared and served by the catering crew at the highly unusual teen club in Santa Rosa’s West End/Railroad Square neighborhood. For a few bucks, guests could spin a wheel for prizes or blindly choose a bottle of wine that might be really good, extraordinary or perhaps heavenly.

With the arrival of dinner time, everyone moved to the gym for a feast by students in the culinary program at Maria Carrillo High School.

A highlight of the dinner program was the awarding of the year’s Spirit of Charles DeMeo Award to Lisa Wittke Schaffner, director of the John Jordan Foundation and an ardent community volunteer.

Following the dessert of pots de crème, guests flowed back to the café to dance, like teens at the junior prom, to the music of Elsie Allen High School’s transcendent jazz band.
