A historical look at Sonoma County women's organizations, 1900 and beyond

Celebrate Women's History Month with a look at these pioneering women's organizations of Sonoma County, some as far back as 1900.|

From pioneer days until today, the women of Sonoma County have known that women are stronger together.

Banding together with co-workers, sisters, mothers and friends, women have achieved more and gone farther than anyone could have imagined. Today, women are Supreme Court justices, CEOS and U.S. senators. But as far as women have come, there is still far to go.

March is National Women's History Month, and to celebrate we have curated a collection of photos highlighting various women's organizations that have supported and fostered the advancement of women and girls in Sonoma County.

The Camp Fire Girls have been a presence in Sonoma County since the early 1900s. Early Sebastopol troops engaged in charitable acts like tree planting along Highway 12 or delivering Easter baskets to shut-ins.

The Business and Professional Women's Foundation was the first organization in the United States to focus on the issues of working women. In the 1930s it worked to prohibit the denial of jobs to married women, and continues to day working on issues of wage discrimination.
