Former Northern California resident to bake Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding cake

Marin native Claire Ptak has been asked to bake Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding cake for their May 19 nuptials.|

Kensington Palace has released a statement confirming that old Bay Area native, Claire Ptak will be baking Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding cake for their May 19 nuptials. As a Marin resident, Ptak worked three years as a pastry chef at Chez Panisse in Berkeley. Ptak later moved across the pond and opened up her own business in Wilton Way, Hackney called Violet Bakery. Markle, the soon-to-be princess, has been a long time fan of Ptak, having previously interviewed her for her lifestyle website, The Tig.

The Palace revealed that the pastry chef will be baking a “lemon elderflower cake that will incorporate the bright flavors of spring. It will be covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers.”

When announcing her big news to her followers on Instagram, Claire Ptak wrote that the Royals “both share so many of the same values regarding food provenance, sustainability, seasonality and of course flavor!”
