The fifth annual Sonoma County VegFest will celebrate compassion for animals from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts.

The event, produced by the Bay Area nonprofit Compassionate Living, will feature more than 70 vendors, veggie cooking demos, speakers, an Animal Film Fest and kids’ activities. New this year: VegSpeed dating for singles and Veggie Jeopardy.

OCCIDENTAL

West of West wine

The West Sonoma Coast Vintners will hold the West of West Wine Festival on Saturday at the Occidental Center for the Arts.

A VIP Library Tasting will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. of an exclusive selection of library wines. VIP tickets are $125. A consumer tasting follows from 2 to 5 p.m. with a selection of pinot, chardonnay and syrah. Tickets are $100.

FORESTVILLE

Shone Farm u-pick

The monthly Pick and Sip event at the Santa Rosa Junior College’s Shone Farm will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Forestville farm.

There will be free wine and olive oil tasting, seasonal produce and u-pick as well as kids’ activities on every third Saturday through Dec. 15.

Wine cocktails

Meadowcroft Wines and Prohibition Spirits will team up for Summer Wine Cocktail Tastings from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Aug. 25 at the winery’s tasting room at Cornerstone Sonoma. No appointment or reservation necessary.

Meadowcroft will also host a Garden Party with wine and nibbles from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Garden Barn. Bring your blanket.

HEALDSBURG

Kombucha 101

Culinary educator Joel Whitaker will teach a class on Home Brewing Kombucha at 1 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Healdsburg SHED.

The course will cover everything from growing a healthy SCOBY to picking the perfect tea blend, and participants will receive a SCOBY and a kombucha kit to take home.

Blues in Vineyard

Pellegrini-Olivet Lane will present Blues in the Vineyard from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the winery at 4055 West Olivet Lane.

The afternoon features live blues by MT & The Wolves, plus wines by the glass or bottle and Wine Country food available for purchase.

Luau at Bear Republic

Bear Republic Lakeside will celebrate their one-year anniversary with a luau buffet dinner from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 5000 Roberts Lake Road.

Bratwurst Day

Johnsonville Big Taste Grill will roll into Santa Rosa Safeway at 2300 Mendocino Ave. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdayto celebrate National Bratwurst Day, also known as Bratsgiving.

The grill team will be searing bratwurst to raise money for the Lake Area Rotary Club Association Fire Relief Fund and offer free food to all the first responders who stop by the grill, which can cook more than 750 brats at a time.
