Women chefs, winemakers host benefit dinner

Sonoma County's leading women chefs and winemakers will team up to host a multi-course dinner at 6 p.m. Oct. 22 at Catelli's to benefit the Healthcare Foundation Northern Sonoma County.

Led by chefs Domenica Catelli of Catelli's and Liza Hinman of Spinster Sisters, the team of chefs includes Duskie Estes of Zazu Kitchen + Farm and Jennifer McMurray of The Pharmacy.

Winemakers paired with the chefs include Ashley Herzberg of Amista, Jen Higgins of Lambert Bridge Winery, Susan Lueker of Simi and Shelly Rafanelli of A. Rafanelli Winery.

Learn the art of cooking heirloom beans

Rancho Gordo founder Steve Sando will give a hands-on class on “Cooking Heirloom Beans” at 11 a.m. Oct. 27 at the Healdsburg SHED.

Sando will demonstrate how to cook beans in clay and talk about his life along the bean trail, in search of the tastiest heirloom beans to grow for his Napa Valley company.

The class culminates with a lunch that reflects the holy trinity of Mexican cooking: beans, corn and chiles.

Enjoy new wines at annual harvest party

Copain Wines will throw its annual Fall Release harvest party in two windows - 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. - Oct. 20 at the winery on Eastside Road.

The team will pour new vintages of the Estate Trousseau Noir, High Rock Syrah adn Kiser “En Bas” Pinot Noir as well as the SeaLift Pinot Noir, their first pinot from the Sonoma Coast.

There will be a small plates menu created by Elaine Bell Catering along with assorted desserts.

Enjoy last harvest dinner at Nick's Cove

Nick's Cove will throw its last al fresco, waterfront harvest dinner of the season at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at the restaurant on Tomales Bay.

The evening begins with a Croft cocktail in the garden served with appetizers and oysters. Then guests will dine in the outdoor Waterfront Lounge on a four-course dinner by Joshua Seibert.

Wine book talk at Copperfield's Books

Vickie Reh, author of “The Wine Table: Recipes and Pairings from Winemakers' Kitchens,” will talk about her travels with winemakers all over the world at 2 p.m. Oct. 20 at Copperfield's Books in Healdsburg.

Reh will discuss what different cultures eat during harvest, drink during the holidays and share the basics and essentials of meeting your local farmer, stocking your pantry and how to buy and store wine.
