It also will guide you in gathering seeds from your garden and preparing your garden for winter. 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Harvest for the Hungry Garden, 1717 Yulupa Ave., Santa Rosa, sonomamastergardeners.org.

SEBASTOPOL

Weed management au naturel

Weeds are often unwieldy, trampling the other plants and flowers in a garden. But there is a way to dispose of these unkempt trespassers without chemicals and a master gardener will explain how at a free talk Sept. 1. Delaying weed control can lead to more problems with stems spreading, seeds germinating and tap roots sinking deeper. 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Sebastopol Regional Library, 7140 Bodega Ave., sonomamg.ucanr.edu. 707-565-2608

SANTA ROSA

Bonsai exhibit

A forest of tiny trees will materialize in the Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial Building Aug. 25 and 26 for the Redwood Empire Bonsai Society's annual exhibition.

More than 200 bonsai will be on display, the largest exhibition of its kind in the U.S., according to members.

Sensei or teacher Kathy Shaner, who trained in Japan, will give demonstrations at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. both days. Shaner trained in Japan and was the first woman and non-Japanese citizen to be certified by the Nippon Bonsai Association as a professional bonsai artist and instructor. 1351 Maple Ave., Santa Rosa.
