Santa Rosa CHP officers make 33 arrests over holiday weekend

The CHP said it arrested 33 people on Sonoma County roads during the Labor Day Weekend, more than double the number during the same period last year.

Of the 33 arrests, 24 were suspected of driving under the influence, and about half of the suspected DUI drivers had prior convictions.

Among the people arrested was Mark Moose, 45, of Santa Rosa was stopped on Santa Rosa Avenue near East Robles Street for having an expired registration, the CHP said. He had three prior convictions for driving while suspended and is on probation for drug charges. A records check revealed Moose had a misdemeanor and a felony no bail warrant out for drug possession. During a search of his car, officers said they found one pound of processed marijuana.

On Monday morning, Steven Nagy, 23, of Rohnert Park, was arrested on suspicion of DUI after he crashed his car on Minnesota Avenue in Penngrove. According to the CHP, he was on probation for a prior DUI. He was booked on suspicion of DUI, violation of probation and driving while suspended.

Monday at 5:10 p.m., the CHP responded to a report of a Lexus sedan that had gone off Piner Road west of Olivet Road. The Lexus had come to rest on its right side in a ditch, according to the CHP.

The driver, Sherri Lewis, 38, and three passengers had injuries ranging from minor to moderate and were taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Lewis, who officers said would not submit to a sobriety test, was arrested at the hospital after being treated. According to the CHP, Lewis was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury and child endangerment because one of the passengers was her 16-year-old daughter. She is in custody on $100,000 bail.

At 8:20 p.m. on Monday, an officer reported being cut off by a Chrysler 300 that made a left turn in front of his patrol car on River Road in Guerneville. When he pulled over the Chrysler, the driver who was later identified as Mary Thomas, 58, of Cazadero, opened her purse to look for her license exposing a bag of what the officer thought was marijuana, the CHP said.

When she handed the bag to the officer, he observed inside her purse were two other bags of what was later determined to be methamphetamine. She also had a glass meth pipe, the CHP said. Thomas was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia and remains in custody on $10,000 bail.
