WILDFIRE ECOLOGY HIKE, JUNE 23

Santa Rosa: Naturalist-led, round trip 7-mile strenuous hike into the southern section of Hood Mountain Regional Park that burned in the Nuns fire in October, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Bring water and lunch. TRAIL BUILDING, JUNE 22-24

Windsor: Spend a day or camp overnight and spend a weekend with Sonoma County Regional Parks staff and Volunteers for Outdoors California rerouting the Canyon Trail, repaving trail treads and improving drainage at Shiloh Ranch Regional Park, 5750 Faught Road. Starts at 5:30 p.m. June 22. Tools, gloves, instructions and food provided. Free camping for volunteers during the event, registration required. Gualala: Families with young children take a guided walk down a coastal path with stops to read a bilingual story about a family of whales called Papa's Song every half hour between 10 a.m. and noon. Kenwood: Register now for Bill and Dave's Hikes and Team Sugarloaf's July 4 Fireworks Hike to the summit of Bald Mountain at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park, 2605 Adobe Canyon Road. Event is from 6:45-11 p.m. The strenuous 6.5-mile roundtrip hike (90 minutes each way) provides a view of 18 fireworks displays in the Bay Area from Windsor to San Francisco and Berkeley and Oakland. $50 for adults, $10 for ages 12-17. DRAGONFLIES, JULY 8

Santa Rosa: Search lakes, streams and wetlands for dragonflies, 9:30-4:30 p.m. at the Laguna de Santa Rosa. Meet Executive Director Kevin Munroe at Heron Hall in the Laguna Environmental Center, 900 Sanford Road and carpool to sites to search and capture these colorful “eagles of the insect world.” For adults and children 12 and older.
