Gearhead: Sea and sand require second skin

For a long day at the beach, you can shield your upper body from the sun’s harmful rays - and look darn good in the process - by wearing a top that provides great UV protection. That’s the job of beach or swim tops known as “skins” or “rash guards,” which are specifically designed for use in or on the water, pair perfectly with swimsuits and don’t impede movement or get in the way.

This summer a large number of outdoor clothing companies offered skins and rash guards in a variety of designs. With the arrival of August seasonal clearance sales, you might want to check out your favorite brands to grab a great-looking skin at a good price. Meanwhile, here are two designs to inspire you:
