Guerneville: Jim Bramfitt will give a rundown on the basics of pruning, focusing on landscape and fruit trees, perennials and shrubs. Guerneville Regional Library, 14107 Armstrong Woods Road.

Santa Rosa: “Holiday Style: Budget Floral Design,” is the topic for this workshop led by Ellyn Pelikan. Learn about the lore, legend and secrets of making wreaths, swags and table decor to grace your home during the holidays using materials from your own garden. Rincon Valley Regional Library, 6958 Montecito Blvd., Santa Rosa.

Sebastopol: Master Gardener and occupational nurse specialist Lois Temple will give a talk on how to avoid common injuries while gardening. Dangers to gardeners range from power tools and hand tools to falls, thorns and repetitive strain injuries. She also will discuss stings, bites, Lyme disease, West Nile Virus, Legionnaire’s Disease and poisonous plants. Sebastopol Regional Library, 7140 Bodega Ave., Sebastopol.

Sonoma: Pauline Haro and Penny Martin team up to show how to use campy containers from thrift shops for container gardens using plants from six-inch pots. The pair will cover plant and soil selection and container preparation. Sonoma Valley Regional Library, 755 W. Napa St., Sonoma.

Antiques appraisal clinic

If you can’t make the cut at The Antiques Roadshow, there is an alternative.

The Sonoma County Museum is holding an appraisal clinic on Nov. 15 so you can find out the value of your artwork, antiques, historical memorabilia, coins, medals, toys and even wine.

Marcus Wardell of Wardell Appraisals will tell you what your treasures are worth. Wardell’s specializes in confidential and objective personal property appraisals. Autumn plant sale

Don’t let Old Man Frost arrive without taking advantage of the fall planting season. There is still time to get perennials and trees into the ground and Willowside School is a great place to stock up while supporting education.

Learn about native bees

Not all bees are alike. Learn about California’s native bees during the next meeting of the Native Plant Society on Nov. 18.

Jaime Paweleck, a U C Berkeley graduate in conservation and resource studies and owner of Wild Bee Garden Design, will be the guest speaker at the 7:30 p.m. meeting. Pawalek works with the Urban Bee Lab, doing bee identification and field sampling. The meeting is open to the general public. Farmhouse makeover

The third annual Traditional Home Napa Valley Showhouse closes Nov. 16 at Caldwell Vineyards, a 123-acre estate in the Coombsville area.

“Admission to the showcase, featuring the work of 15 designers unleashed on a restored Victorian home, is $30 and includes a tour of the house and property as well as a taste of Caldwell Estate wines. For $75, guests will get an extended tasting and admission to the Caldwell cave.

The Showhouse will be open for visits from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except Mondays through Nov. 16 and is a benefit for the Napa Valley Film Festival.
