(1)Frank Thomas, who is out for the season, returned to the clubhouse and said he?s not going to need surgery on his strained quad. Thomas, 40, said he?s not planning to retire, and he?d like to return to the A?s.

(2)Sacramento beat Oklahoma, 8-5, on Friday night, taking a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five Pacific Coast League Championship Series. The A?s are expected to recall at least a couple more players after the River Cats are finished, most likely Carlos Gonzalez and Travis Buck. The latest Sacramento?s season could run is Sunday.

(3)Ellis received the Dave Stewart Community Service Award before Friday?s game. It is annually awarded to an A?s player for his charitable work.
