Man accused of assaulting girlfriend on Petaluma street

Petaluma police arrested a 22-year-old man suspected of assaulting his girlfriend Friday night.

Officers responded to the area of G Street and 1st Street just before midnight on reports from a witness that a man was pinning a woman to the ground by her neck, Petaluma police reported.

Oliver Ramirez, the boyfriend, was detained at the scene.

The woman was located by officers a short time later at a nearby business where she had reported being injured by her boyfriend, police said.

Her injuries were visible, police said, while not detailing what they were. The woman said she had been strangled, police reported.

She was taken to Petaluma Valley Hospital for treatment.

Ramirez was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon, in this case bodily force.
