Lakeport police arrest woman suspected of punching officers

A Lakeport woman suspected of shoplifting punched a police officer and a store security officer as she was leaving a Lakeport store, said Lakeport Police Chief Brad Rasmussen.

The woman, Marlyca Rose Ramos, 22, was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting, as well as assaulting the officer and the security officer.

Ramos knocked the police officer down after punching her in the head and face. While the female officer was on the ground, the woman hit her in the face again, said the chief in a release issued Tuesday.

The officer, who wasn't identified, recovered, pulled her taser and held the suspect until other officers arrived.

Police were called to the K-Mart at about 6 p.m. Sunday for an uncooperative shoplifter.

The security officer was punched two or three times in the face as he tried to stop Ramos as she was leaving, Rasmussen said.

The alleged assault on the officer came as she attempted to arrest Ramos.

Rasmussen said the two victims had minor injuries.

Ramos was arrested on suspicion of felony resisting an officer with violence, and misdemeanor battery on an officer, battery and shoplifting, according to Lake County Jail records. She remained in custody Wednesday in lieu of $15,000 bail.
