Brazen burglars targeting east Petaluma homes

Four brazen daytime burglaries in east Petaluma in two days have police attention and officials are asking area residents to be alert.

Petaluma Lt. Tim Lyons said residents on Caulfield Lane and Lauren Drive Tuesday reported coming home to find their front doors open and their homes burglarized.

"They kicked the front door in, ransacked the house, steal a few quick items and leave," said Lyons Wednesday.

The four homes have all been in a busy southeast section of town.

Monday the victims were on Ely Boulevard South and Crinella Drive.

The Ely Boulevard victim arrived home while the burglar was inside and then watched as a man came out a side gate carrying a pillow case full of items.

He got into a black-colored sedan and left.

Items taken have included small electronic items, money and jewelry.

Lyons said some evidence is pointing police to the East Bay, but he declined to describe the evidence.

He said detectives also are checking with neighboring agencies for any reports of similar crimes.

Lyons asked residents home during the day or passing through the area to call police if they see anything suspicious.

"Broad daylight, front door kick-ins," said Lyons. "That's pretty brazen."

The resident who saw the man told police he was about 20 years old, black, 5-foot-9, 170 pounds, clean shaven and had short hair. He wore dark-colored clothing.
