Suspected drunk driver crashes in Sebastopol with two kids in back seat

A Sebastopol man who crashed his vehicle into a ditch while two children were seated in the back seat Wednesday evening was arrested for suspected child endangerment and driving under the influence, the CHP said.

Alex Young, 39, reportedly had driven back and forth in front of his High School Road home several times in an effort to find the house before crashing, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.

A bystander called authorities around 6:50 p.m. to report what appeared to be a reckless or impaired driver weaving down the road. Officers found Young's silver Volvo sedan crashed into the ditch near East Hurlbut Avenue, Sloat said.

Neither Young nor the children -#8212; a 7-year-old boy and 9-year-old girl -#8212; were injured. Both of the kids were wearing seatbelts, Sloat said.

Young was booked into the Sonoma County Jail but was released Thursday morning after posting bond for $25,000 bail, jail personnel said.
