Santa Rosa police focusing on Hwy 12 / Mission Blvd intersection

Santa Rosa police are cracking down on a number of traffic violations at the intersection of Highway 12 and Mission Boulevard this week, from running red lights to talking on cell phones to speeding.

The police department chooses such areas for special enforcement based on traffic collision data and reports from residents that indicate an intersection might be a hot spot for collisions, said Traffic Sgt. Brad Conners.

"The purpose of traffic enforcement like this is collision reduction, to encourage people to drive safely," he said.

Specifically, officers will be on the lookout for people without seatbelts, cars running red lights, drivers on cell phones, lane marking violations and speeding. The effort is partially funded through a state Office of Traffic Safety grant.
