Petaluma police plan more DUI checkpoints

Petaluma police efforts to dissuade drunken driving continue Friday as they plan to hold two checkpoints to catch impaired drivers in the act.

The checkpoints come on the heels of a recent spree of four DUI-related crashes in three days, all in Petaluma.

Traffic Sgt. Jim Stephenson said the goal of the operation is both to arrest impaired drivers and raise awareness about the dangers of driving while intoxicated.

The checkpoints will be funded by a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety.
