Body discovered in house fire outside Lakeport

Firefighters responding to a house fire late Monday night outside Lakeport discovered a body inside the home, fire officials said.

Sheriff's officials are investigating the fire and death, Lakeport Fire Department Capt. Bob Ray said.

"That's normal. Any time there's a fatality, it's always investigated," he said.

The fire was reported at about 10:30 p.m. on Highland Springs Road, Ray said. The house was destroyed.

Ray said he cannot release any additional information about the incident at this time.

Sheriff's officials could not be reached Tuesday.
