Smith: Luther Burbank's art bench gets new home

OAKMONT WILL ENVY the Luther Burbank art bench that resident Mariel Green will anchor to her porch as soon as she's able.

The bench was created, splendidly, by young apprentices with ArtStart. Mariel purchased it at the benefit art show produced each year by the Oakmont Art Association.

A band of roses adorns the bench, and a quote from Burbank: "Flowers always make people better.

. they are sunshine, food and medicine to the soul." Thanks in part to the sale of the bench, the art show was so successful that the Oakmont group could donate more than ever before - $4,000 - to art scholarships at SRJC.COYOTE (NOT) UGLY: The visual treat that is the great steel coyote howling alongside Highway 101 in Geyserville will be moving on.Bryan Tedrick, who created the 26-foot beauty for Burning Man, has sold it to vintners Ken and Diane Wilson.The coyote will go to one of their boutique wineries, of which there are seven.
