Mendocino man suspected of threatening woman with cleaver

A Mendocino man was arrested Monday night for allegedly holding a meat cleaver to a woman's throat during a domestic argument, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office.

David Vanlandingham, 57, and the woman, with whom he lives, had been drinking at a local bar, sheriff's officials said.

Vanlandingham reportedly was angry that the woman left the bar early to go home to sleep, officials said. When he arrived home later, he awakened the victim and they argued. During the argument, he held the knife to victim's throat, Sheriff's officials said.

Vanlandingham was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment an battery against a spouse, officials said.
