The list of retailers affected by the Petaluma slaughterhouse recall tripled Wednesday to nearly 6,400 establishments.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture released an updated list containing businesses in 35 states, plus Guam.
Also, Canada's Food inspection agency said recalls related to Rancho Feeding Corp. are underway in at least five provinces.
Among the companies affected by the recall are 66 regional and national retailers, including Albertsons, Circle K, Rite Aide, Safeway, Walgreens, K-Mart, Wal-Mart and 7-Eleven. The recall has included such items as frozen taquitos, hamburger patties and Hot Pocket sandwiches.
On Feb. 10, the USDA released its initial recall list of 13 North Bay retailers. By Feb. 21, the list had grown to more 2,100 locations in 29 states.
The recall of 8.7 million pounds of meat from the Petaluma slaughterhouse began Feb. 8. The agency "now believes that recalled product was shipped to distribution centers and retail establishments nationwide," according to Wednesday's notice.
