Investigation into Roseland party shooting continues

Sonoma County sheriff's detectives are still investigating a reported weekend shooting at a birthday party on Sebastopol Road, but they have not yet identified a witness or a suspect, said Sgt. Shannon McAlvain Monday.

The gunfire was reported Saturday night at a Sebastopol Road auto body shop where people had apparently gathered for a party. Deputies were called to the scene to respond to a report of several men shooting at each other. Once there, they found a woman who was covered in someone else's blood but uninjured, according to a Sheriff's Office press release. There was also an expended shell casing nearby.

The people inside the auto shop told deputies there had been a shooting but didn't provide any other information.

The Sheriff's Office said Sunday that they were investigating the shooting as an assault with a deadly weapon. The sheriff's Violent Crimes Investigation Unit took over the case.

"The case has been assigned to a detective, but we are still in the preliminary stages," McAlvain said, adding that he couldn't provide additional information about the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at 565-2185.
