Petaluma police Wednesday investigated two home burglaries in the same neighborhood, one involving a resident who awakened to the sound of someone in their kitchen.
The crimes occurred within about five blocks of each other in an eastside neighborhood flanking Maria Drive.
There is no evidence the crimes are connected, Sgt. Ken Savano said.
Officers learned of the first case Monday night when a Banff Way resident reported they had scared off an apparent burglar, said Sgt. Andrew Urton.
The victim had been asleep when they heard a noise downstairs as someone opened a kitchen cabinet. The intruder started to walk upstairs, apparently using a light from a cellphone, Urton said.
The victim arose to confront the intruder, then heard the person run down the stairs and leave the house. Nothing apparently was taken. Police found a screen gone from a downstairs window and a window forced open.
At 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, an Arcadia Way resident returned home and found someone had been inside during the night or morning, apparently after forcing open a sliding glass door.
The intruder took items including jewelry, Savano said. Police searched the neighborhood but found no suspects.
