Victims in Highway 101 pileup listed in serious condition

A man and woman badly injured in a Sunday morning crash involving four cars and two suspected drunken drivers remained hospitalized Monday.

Bertha Alicia Vazquez, 39, and Gregorio Galvez, 25, were both listed in serious condition at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital Monday.

The condition of Vazquez's son, a 2-year-old who also was injured in the crash and taken to Children's Hospital in Oakland, was not available.

Police say the pileup began when the Volvo Vazquez was driving collided with a Honda Accord on Highway 101 near Rohnert Park, causing both cars to spin out of control.

After Vazquez and her passenger, Galvez, got out of the car along with the child, another vehicle struck the Volvo, causing it to hit all three people. Then a fourth vehicle struck Vazquez.

The driver of the fourth vehicle, Lucien Albert Lippi, 41, of Healdsburg, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, according to the CHP.

Lippi was still in jail Monday, held on $100,000 bail and facing felony charges of DUI causing bodily injury. He was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.

Vazquez was also suspected of drunken driving and was arrested but released to the hospital.

No additional information about the crash was available Monday, said CHP Officer Kerri Post.
