Informational session set for potential Sonoma County grand jurors

Citizens interested in serving on the Sonoma County grand jury may attend an informational session from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Empire College, 3035 Cleveland Ave., Santa Rosa.

Court Executive Officer Jos?Guill? and former and current jury members will attend the meeting and answer questions.

"What we're looking for is a larger pool of applicants," said Cheryl Davey of Santa Rosa, the jury forewoman.

The deadline for submitting an application to serve on the 19-member jury is April 9.

Grand jurors must be U.S. citizens at least 18 years old and Sonoma County residents for a minimum of one year. They must also have sufficient English language skills.

The grand jury, which conducts investigations of local government operations, serves a one-year term starting July 1.

Jurors are paid up to $27.50 per day for meetings, typically amounting to about $220 a month, and also receive mileage compensation.
