Body found in Petaluma may be suicide victim

Sonoma County Coroner's officials are investigating the death of a person whose body was recovered Thursday from the Petaluma River as a possible suicide.

A boater spotted the body in the water around 4 p.m., somewhere between the Highway 101 bridge over the Petaluma River and Gilardi's Lakeville Marina.

The Lakeville Fire Department began searching with help from the Sheriff's Office helicopter, and the body was recovered about half an hour later.

The person's age, residence and gender were not available Friday.

At least four homeless people have been found dead in Petaluma since August. However, the person found Thursday was not believed to be homeless, said sheriff's Lt. Carlos Basurto.
