SMART to test Santa Rosa road crossings Tuesday

The commuter rail authority improving tracks through Sonoma and Marin counties will conduct a test of 10 road crossing warning systems in Santa Rosa on Tuesday, March 25.

The Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit authority said the testing of crossing gates, bells and flashing lights will occur from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., for the following crossings:

- Bellevue Avenue

- Barham Avenue

- Sebastopol Road

- 3rd Street

- 6th Street

- 7th Street

- 8th Street

- 9th Street

- College Avenue

- Guerneville Road

Testing is already complete for 30 grade crossings in other areas of the project, SMART said.

The testing will be conducted with a freight train operating through the crossings at 25 mph. The train will make multiple runs in both north and southbound directions to perform verification of proper operation of the warning devices at each crossing, SMART said.
