An old grudge between two Santa Rosa men may have led to a Saturday night shooting and subsequent arrest Tuesday of one of the men on suspicion of attempted homicide.
Santa Rosa police arrested Leonard James Roubidoux, 20, in the shooting of a 21-year-old man in southwest Santa Rosa. Police said Roubidoux is a known gang member.
They also arrested a 17-year-old Santa Rosa girl they said appeared to be Roubidoux's girlfriend. They suspected she was an accessory to the crime and was with Roubidoux at the time of the shooting, Santa Rosa Sgt. Dave Linscomb said Wednesday.
The victim turned up Saturday night outside of a Santa Rosa fire station on Corporate Center Parkway. The man had a gunshot wound to his leg and a car sprayed with bullet holes.
A Chevrolet Impala abandoned nearby helped detectives identify Roubidoux as a suspect, Linscomb said.
Gang detectives have been looking for Roubidoux for a few days and Tuesday afternoon found him walking on West Third Street near Stony Point Road. His girlfriend, who wasn't identified because of her age, was nearby and also taken into custody.
Linscomb declined to name the victim, saying the shooting remained under investigation because more people could be involved and that the man could be in danger from the suspect's gang ties.
A motive for the shooting could involve an ongoing grudge between the two, possibly involving a quarrel some years back where the suspect may have brandished a gun at the victim, Linscomb said.
Saturday night, Roubidoux and the girl crossed paths with the victim near Fresno Avenue and Northpoint Parkway, Linscomb said.
Witnesses called police, saying they'd heard yelling and several shots fired.
Detectives believe Roubidoux shot at the victim with a handgun, which has not been found.
Roubidoux is being held in the Sonoma County Jail in lieu of $1,050,000 bail, suspected of five felony crimes, including attempted homicide, shooting into an inhabited vehicle, intimidating a witness and street gang enhancements.
The girl also was arrested on suspicion of gang enhancements and was taken to the county's juvenile detention center.
