Fire damages Petaluma mobile home

A Petaluma mobile home was severely damaged in a blaze Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Fire crews responded to the fire at 250 Cavanaugh Lane at 3:50 p.m. as one room of the mobile home was engulfed in flames, said Rancho Adobe Fire Battalion Chief Herb Wandel. The mobile home was used as a second residence on the property for the main homeowner.

Firefighters were able to put out the blaze in five minutes at the residence, even though Wandel said 'there was a lot of material, just shy of hoarding' at the mobile home.

The two occupants of the mobile home were able to escape the fire and notified the homeowner on the property about the blaze. But the two had left the scene once fire crews arrived. The mobile home was deemed inhabitable because of smoke and fire damage, Wandel said.

Wandel said the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office was called in to assist with the investigation.
